| In an earlier post Ian asked if soarood actually floats in the air. I was incorrect in my answer, with further reading i have come across several facts about this strange wood. Soarwood comes from Aerenal and it's export is strictly limited by the elves there. Due to this limited supply of soarwood the gnomes of Zilargo, who manufacture the magnificent airships are always willing to pay well for access to new sources of the material. Although nowhere that i can find actually states it, it can be assumed that soarwood is neutrally buoyant in air. You can find more details about elemental airships here | |

| Aha! So if I, for example, bought a soarwood rowboat I could attach a harness to Hurricane and have him ferry us about the city? | |

Theoretically, if you could afford it and if you could find some method of keeping it stable in the air etc., etc.... It would probably be easier to just buy a skycoach.

| Obviously this is subject to GM approval etc, but there's a soarwood rowboat listed in the Eberron book for a mere 200 gp | |

| The rowboat is a mere rowboat mate. It just moves twice as fast and weighs 75% less than a normal rowboat (ECS p. 124 & 127 respectively)
When i said that soarwood is neutrally buoyant in air perhaps i mislead you, my bad, let me clarify. It is NEUTRALLY BUOYANT, therefore it actually has no applicable weight of its own, ANY weight applied will cause it to fall to ground. i.e. If you were to place a log of the stuff 1 foot off the ground it would stay there, if you were to hammer a nail into it it would effectively weigh as much as 1 nail and fall to the ground.
I also said that theoretically you could tow it behind Hurricane, that theoretically involves magics being woven into the vessel, magics that are most likely out of your range (please don't ask me what they are as i have no idea - the gnomes of Zilargo are very secretive on these matters).
I hope this clarifies matters

| Already have .... .... and as i said the secrets of imbuing soarwood with the ability of flight are a secret guarded closely by the gnomes of Zilargo. Even if it were to be revealed, it would take more than one person working alone to achieve. That said, if you want to start researching...... | |
